I’m Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of Brighter Futures. My journey in youth work and community support started back in 2010 when I founded Sports Alive Northwest—a grassroots sports coaching organisation working across Merseyside.
Very quickly, I realised I could do more. Alongside the sports projects, I began delivering youth work—both out in the community and in youth centres. It was clear that young people needed more support than just somewhere to play.
As challenges like anti-social behaviour, poor mental health, and social isolation grew, so did the work. We expanded, brought in more staff and volunteers, and shaped our approach around one clear goal: creating safe, stronger, and healthier communities.
Now, leading Brighter Futures, I’m using everything I’ve learned to keep building on that vision—growing our reach, forming new partnerships, and helping even more young people thrive.
My name is Paul and I am a semi retired Hackney cab driver. I’m married to Wendy and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
I held my own allotment for 20 years and during that time was Chair of the ALA (Association of Liverpool Allotments) and Grandison Road Allotments.
During lockdown I studied Botany, Organic growing , Beekeeping and how to run your own course. I completed all and passed each with a distinction.
In 2023 I was approached by Brighter Futures to run a course for them of how to run your own allotment. I have really enjoyed this and look forward to continuing to do so at Walton Hall Allotments.
Hello my name is Siobhan, I have been working for Sports Alive for 3 years as a youth worker and most recently as the organisations’ Social Prescriber. I am very passionate about youth work and I love making a difference to the young people in our communities. I always aim to offer young people a safe space to be themselves and find ways to overcome difficulties they experience.
As a trained mental health first aider I use Social Prescribing to offer that extra support for young people to improve their health and wellbeing by connecting them to non-medical support that makes a huge difference. I am also a qualified life coach which as taught me to have time to understand young people’s needs and what matters to them, and then work with them to create a personalised plan.
